i don't think soup should further go into the "like a real blog"-direction. however, i propose a rudimentary workaround. I just created a group soup called imageupload.
if you need pictures for a text blog:
01. join imageupload
02. dump your pics there
03. embed them in your text post using html (you really just need a minimum of basic knowledge to do the trick)
